Training Events

Training events can be a great learning opportunity for those in the Industrial hygiene field.  During training events you can learn valuable tools and information on how to make the most out of what you’ve learned and apply it to your career field. You usually come away from a training event ready to get started and use the tools you were given to succeed.

What is Industrial Hygiene?

This is the Science and art to control environmental stressors that arise in the workplace. Those that study industrial hygiene have to have the technical knowledge of many subjects including:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Math
  • Physics
  • Biostatistics
  • Epidemiology
  • Toxicology
  • Biological
  • Physical Hazards
  • Mining
  • Manufacturing
  • Professional ethics
  • Air conditioning ventilation
  • Air pollution

There are yearly events known as the OHTA which stands for Occupational Hygiene Training Association. They offer a training events for those with an interested in getting training in occupational or industrial hygiene. Many accredited institutions also offer courses in industrial hygiene for a bachelors or masters degree.  In the UK the British Occupational Hygiene Society is for those who have training and qualification in the industrial hygiene field. There are three types of memberships they include:

  • Licentiate: These members have the certificate of operational competence and 3 years of field experience.
  • Members: These members have the Diploma of Professional Competence and have 5 years of experience.
  • Fellows: These members are senior members who have made a contribution to the advancement of the field.

If you are interested in learning more about this field and getting started it is recommended that you attend one of the training events. The training events will help you understand more about the field and exactly what you will be doing. You will get to participate in hands on studies that will help you get a feel for it as well.
